BoatHub was established to make accessing the water by boat easier for wheelchair users, offering a relaxed, welcoming, and fully accessible environment.
Based in Dún Laoghaire Harbour, the project is about opening up boating experiences to more people and removing many of the barriers that can often make getting on the water difficult.
Phase one of BoatHub is focused on wheelchair users, with future phases planned to expand the service to support people with a wider range of disabilities and accessibility needs.
Our goal is simple; to create an enjoyable, inclusive and straightforward boating experience where people can take part with confidence, independence and support where needed.
At the centre of BoatHub is Grace, our fully wheelchair-accessible boat designed specifically to provide safe and comfortable access to Dublin Bay. The boat includes wheelchair-friendly boarding, secure onboard spaces and equipment designed to make the experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible for everyone onboard.
For those with the relevant boating qualifications and experience, there may be opportunities to take the boat out independently. For anyone without certification, trained volunteers will be available to operate the boat and support trips out on the bay. There will also be opportunities for people to upskill in the area.
The service is completely free of charge. Safety equipment and lifejackets are all provided, and family members, friends, companions are always welcome to come along and enjoy the experience too.
